Sacajawea [Sacajawea]
(c. 1784– c. 1884) a ↑ShoshoneNative American who guided ↑Lewis and Clark in 1805 when they investigated the ↑Louisiana Purchase. She was the wife of the French ↑frontiersman Toussaint Charbonneau, who also travelled with them and interpreted for them. Sacajawea was especially helpful when they reached her home region around the Missouri River.
